Nature's Recipes
A blocked nose can turn a simple action like breathing into a subject that occupies us all day.
A gentle rinse with a salt solution helps clear mucus, dust and particles that have accumulated in the nasal passages, and can give a feeling of freer breathing.
It is an old home method, also used as part of accepted treatment for congestion and allergy symptoms.
Why Does It Help?
- Helps rinse away mucus and secretions.
- Clears particles and allergens from the nasal passages.
- May reduce the feeling of congestion.
- Helps moisten dry mucous membranes.

Fill the rinse bottle with the suitable water, at a lukewarm temperature.
Add a sachet of salts according to the manufacturer's instructions.
Close and shake gently until fully dissolved.
Stand over the sink and tilt your head slightly to the side.
Breathe through your mouth.
Place the bottle's nozzle gently against the upper nostril.
Let the solution flow gently and come out through the other nostril.
Repeat the action on the other side.
Blow your nose gently and clean the bottle after use.
You can rinse once a day in periods of congestion, as needed and according to the product's instructions.
- A ready-made sachet of salts for nasal rinsing.
- 240 ml of distilled or sterile water, or water that has been boiled and cooled.
- A dedicated nasal rinse bottle or a clean neti pot.
A lukewarm solution is usually more pleasant than a cold one.
A ready-made salt sachet makes it easier to get the right concentration and reduces the chance of stinging caused by an unbalanced mixture.
Did You Know?
Nasal rinsing is not only a traditional remedy. It is also used in ear, nose and throat medicine as a tool to relieve symptoms of allergic rhinitis and certain nose and sinus problems.
One important point: for nasal rinsing, use only distilled or sterile water, or water that has been boiled and cooled — not tap water directly.
Sometimes the most pleasant feeling is simply being able to breathe through your nose again.
