There is something comforting about a warm bath at the end of the day, especially when the skin feels dry, tight or itchy. One of the oldest and most successful traditional remedies for sensitive skin care is actually simple oatmeal, the kind found in almost every kitchen.

Finely ground oatmeal has been used for years to soothe the skin, soften it and relieve the feeling of itch. It is especially suited to periods when the skin needs a little more gentleness and moisture.

Why Is It Good?

  • Soothes itch: natural compounds in oatmeal may reduce the feeling of itch and irritation.
  • Helps dry skin: contributes to preserving moisture and softening the skin.
  • Suits eczema-prone skin: may ease the dryness and itch that accompany eczema.
  • Supports the skin barrier: contains starches, lipids and compounds that help reduce moisture loss.
  • Gives a feeling of softness: leaves the skin more pleasant to the touch.

Preparation and Use
  1. Place the oatmeal in a blender and grind until a very fine powder is obtained, almost like flour.

  2. Fill a bathtub with lukewarm water.

  3. Sprinkle the oatmeal powder into the water and mix well.

  4. The water will take on a delicate milky hue — that is exactly what we want.

  5. Enter the bath and soak the body for 10–15 minutes.

  6. Get out and dry the skin with gentle pats, without rubbing.

  7. Apply moisturizing cream while the skin is still slightly damp.

What You Need
  • One cup of natural oatmeal, with no sugar or additives (about 80 grams).
  • A blender or spice grinder.
  • A bathtub with lukewarm water.
  • Moisturizing cream for after the bath.
How Often?

You can enjoy an oatmeal bath two to three times a week, or as needed.

A Small Tip from Nature

You don't have to fill a whole bathtub to enjoy the benefits.

To soothe dry skin on the hands or feet, you can mix 2 tablespoons of ground oatmeal in a liter of lukewarm water, and soak the area for about 10 minutes.

You can also put the ground oatmeal into a thin, clean cloth bag, tie it and place it in the bath water. This way you enjoy the milky water without leaving many residues in the bathtub.

Did You Know?

Oatmeal contains compounds called Avenanthramides, natural antioxidants that have been studied for their soothing and anti-inflammatory properties.

In the cosmetics industry, colloidal oatmeal (Colloidal Oatmeal) is used, ground and processed specially to disperse in water and help protect dry, irritated skin.

Our home version is based on the same simple idea: finely grinding oatmeal and combining it in lukewarm water.

A Small Moment of Indulgence

I especially love the idea that such a simple ingredient, one we are used to seeing in our breakfast bowl, can become part of a pleasant care routine.

No complicated preparations and no long list of ingredients. Just oatmeal, lukewarm water and a few minutes of rest.

Sometimes the best things for the skin are right there in the kitchen cupboard.
