Do you wake up in the morning and your eyelids feel sticky? Sometimes small crusts build up at the base of the lashes, and the eyes feel tired and irritated.
A warm compress is a simple home treatment that can help soften the discharge and gently cleanse the eyelids.

Wash your hands well.
Dip the towel in the warm water and wring it out.
Close your eyes and lay the towel on your eyelids for 5–10 minutes.
Re-warm the towel in the water as needed.
Gently wipe the softened crusts with a damp, clean pad, without rubbing the eye.
- A small, soft, clean face towel.
- A bowl of warm water, not too hot.
- A clean cotton pad.
Once or twice a day, as needed.
There is no need to add tea, essential oils or plant extracts to the water. Around the eyes, clean warm water is the gentlest choice.
Why Is It Good?
The warmth may help soften the discharge and oils that build up around the eyelid glands, and make it easier to clean the lash margins.
Did You Know?
Along the eyelid margins there are glands that secrete an oil which helps maintain the tear film. When the secretion becomes thick, gentle warming may help.
I love the simplicity of this treatment. A warm towel and a few minutes of quiet are sometimes all it takes to start the morning much more comfortably.
Eye pain, a change in vision or significant redness require a medical examination.
